Wonderful photos of the barges from many different angles. We have them here, too, on the Mississippi and they are a draw for onlookers. Intereting crafts doing important work.

What a working life that would be, to work on the water.

Greetings from Joensuu near the Arctic Circle, now we we have very different seasons. Your serene, green photos against my white photos !!

Oliver, have you ever taken a trip on a barge? I remember seeing them on the rivers in Germany. some who have a small car on their deck...I guess that way when you pulled in to a town, you would have a way to get around.

Oliver,
Thank you for your visit and comment at Maple Ridge DP. You live in a beautiful place.
Intriqued by the post regarding the wall dancers. I have never seen that performance. Was there music also?

I just finished one of the Inspector Maigret books by Simenon - it took place on a barge on the Seine ;-)

I like the different perspectives you are showing us. It looks like we can just jump on in some of the pictures! I wonder what they are carrying?

What I'm going to say is more complicated than usual so I'm do it in English.

I have always wanted to live in a barge and sail down the canals in France. Have you done that before?

Olivier a dit…

to answer the questions.

Yes Alice they still live in the barges, but I ever saw of child in these barges.

For ming, not I am never to get into a barge (except in Paris to listen to a concert of Jazz), I do not have the marine foot.

For Lori, they often transport cereals (upstream there are the large mills of Corbeille)

This reminds me a lot of the river Rhine in Germany, where I come from. It looks a lot like this there, too. Same kind of ships are on the Rhine.
