Demain LES FANTASIAS

The fantasia, also called “play of the Powder” - or “irar S tghallin” (play with the mares) in chaoui -, is an equestrian demonstration which one finds in various areas of North Africa. This Berber tradition - practised in all Maghreb - consists in simulating a military attack of cavalry. These short races make contribute mainly barbs, light and air, carrying a harnessing of very coloured pageantry. The objective of the test is to finish the race by drawing a blow from rifle in the air, at the same moment, to hear only one detonation. It is then the intensity of the “dinghies” of the women which determines the winners.

Wonderful details in the horse attire.

The bridles and saddles are very intricate and beautiful. That must have been amazing to see. My favorite is the gray horse rearing up! (Tu as raison.

Exquisite and graceful and quite remarkable. Not sure I understand the goal but I'm sure the pageantry is something to experience. Merci Olivier!

Beautiful horses and wonderful pageantry. Your first two photos from yesterday were really special, the chestnut one looks like a diva at a concert, while the dappled grey horse looks like something out of a picture book for children.

(Regarding the hay machines on my blog a few days ago, the first machine is used to arrange the hay into rows. The hay is distributed evenly over the field after it is cut, and this machine is used to make piles of it so that the second machine can collect it more easily).

Because of our 4th of July celebration yesterday, I didn't comment much on blogs, but I certainly am glad that I back-tracked to learn about the festival. These horses are beautiful.
